Are YOU willing to take a stand?

Are YOU willing to take a stand?

Over the past few weeks, I?ve had the opportunity to reflect on my priorities and what is really important in life. I have also had the opportunity to think about what I?m doing and what I?m willing to do to ensure those important things become ? or stay ? reality.

My first and foremost priority is my children. I take parenting very seriously. I am (though I never intended to be) a single mom with three young boys, ages 11, 7, & 6. One of the things that is sadly lacking in our society is respect. My children have always been taught to be respectful and polite. They hold doors ? for everyone, not just women and the elderly. They thank veterans. They tell ordinary service people (like janitors, busboys, waitresses, etc.) thank you ? they even tell them how much they appreciate the job they do. They complement people. They offer to help in any way they can. My children say please, thank you, yes sir, yes ma?am, no sir, and no ma?am.

I am not a perfect parent ? not by any measure! But, I try to be responsible and model the behavior I expect in my children. My children are not perfect children. They have been known to tell me, ?No!? They have been known to not do what they were told to do, and do what they were told not to. But, it?s a start ? and I?m doing the best I can!

I have also made the choice to homeschool my children. Yes, I realize that homeschooling is not for everyone, and not everyone is able to do it. I am very blessed to be able to. I take their education very seriously. I believe they should learn what they love and love what they learn. I think the public school system is lacking and is entirely too liberal. I find it disturbing that textbooks are being rewritten with a liberal slant. Especially when it comes to history ? educators are rewriting history! That is both appalling and disturbing. History is a historical account based on fact and actual events and people. You can?t simply rewrite it! I choose to teach my children the truth. I choose to teach them what this country was founded on. I choose to teach them about the sacrifices that others have laid down for them. It is becoming more and more difficult to find accurate history books. That is seriously sad.

In this world, not every stand we take has to be made out loud. I was just telling a friend that respect and dignity are things that are sadly lacking ? I may not be perfect, but I certainly will not contribute any further to the problem ? I will teach my boys to be respectful, to be grateful, to acknowledge sacrifice, to endure, and to stand up for their beliefs without fear. Our children really are the future (No, it?s not just a clich
